Portrait Painting
Fay Sanders
The course will introduce practical information about the fundamentals of painting: paint-mixing, color, composition, and perspective. Through slide presentations, discussions, work periods, group and individual critiques, we will expand and develop the ability to convey visual language. This course is tailored to the individual regarding materials and personal sensibilities: students are encouraged to make work in whatever style they choose.
Still-life in Acrylic or Oil
Fay Sanders
This class introduces several approaches to help students deepen their practice in observational still life painting. We will be focusing on creating paintings with a more intentional and better understood use of color. Through guided technical experimentation, we will also cover the fundamentals of composition, value, and mark-making. Brief slideshow lectures at the beginning of each class will provide students with critical and foundational knowledge for assessing their own work. Students are encouraged to make work in whatever style they choose: realistically, expressionistically, abstractly, etc. Individual and group critiques will encourage and foster abundant work and swift progress by helping students deepen their understanding of their artwork, creative process, and work method. We will have individual and group critics. All levels are welcome.
Mixed Media
Fay Sanders
This class is an introduction to various mediums such as collage, water-based paint, charcoal, pastel, pen, etc. Each student will make a body of work that is based on a personal vision. Each class will begin with a brief warm-up as a way to become familiar with each new medium. Students will complete individualized projects throughout the course.
